We serve clients across Tennessee—including Chattanooga, Jackson, Memphis, Murfreesboro, and Knoxville—and Alabama providing high-quality passive fire protection and insulation solutions. Our experienced team is committed to helping businesses protect their properties and assets with reliable, code-compliant systems.

Sprayed Fire-Resistant Material (SFRM)

Spray applied fireproofing is an essential component of a building’s passive fireproofing strategy. It not only provides thermal and acoustical benefits, but also helps control condensation. The primary function, however, is to insulate steel and metal decking from the extreme temperatures encountered during a fire, allowing for up to 4 hours to safely exit the building. This fireproofing can be either cementitious or fiber-based. Cementitious fireproofing, in particular, is often specified by architects and preferred by applicators due to its effectiveness in protecting a building’s structural steel from failure in the event of a fire.

Spray Foam Insulation & Acoustic Coatings

Spray applied materials to add NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) or thermal protection (R-Value)

  • Monoglass (fiberglass) – used for NRC and R-20 and under thermal protection
  • K-13 (cellulose) – used for NRC and R-20 and under thermal protection. Available in colors.
  • Spray Foam Insulation – used for thermal protection. Can be applied to multiple surfaces to achieve high R-Values in a variety of situations
    • Closed Cell – provides high R-Values per inch, moisture resistance and is durable
    • Open Cell – provides less R-Value per inch than closed cell, is more breathable and flexible than closed cell
    • Injection – this is used to fill tubes or CMU to prevent heat transfer.

Intumescent Fire-Resistive Material (IFRM)

Used as part of a building’s passive fireproofing strategy, CIP provides Intumescent Fire-Resistive Materials in commercial and industrial buildings. They can be applied to structural members as a thin film option for passive fireproofing product.

  • Epoxy – a 2-part, chemically cured product used for exterior applications.
  • Solvent Borne – single component product that can be exposed to weather during the construction cycle. It is an interior product and cannot be left exposed to the elements
  • Water Borne – single component product that cannot be exposed to moisture. It is an interior product

Firestopping

A passive fire protection method that involves sealing openings and joints in fire-resistance rated walls and floors to prevent the spread of fire and smoke

  • Top of Wall – sealing the area between the top of a fire rated wall and the deck above.
  • Edge of Slab – sealing the area between the floor slab and the exterior wall.
  • Penetrations – sealing the area around holes caused when MEP passes through a fire-rated walls

Air/Vapor Barrier (AVB)

This is a fluid applied system utilized to prevent moisture flow from entering the building envelope while allowing moisture to escape.

Our Fireproofing Capabilities Include

Spray Applied Fireproofing

Spray-applied fireproofing protects structural steel and decking from extreme heat, providing up to four hours of fire resistance. While it also offers thermal, acoustic, and condensation-control benefits, its main purpose is to prevent structural failure during a fire. Available in fiber or cementitious forms, the latter is most commonly specified for its reliability and ease of application.

Cementitious Fireproofing

Cementitious fireproofing is specified by architects and favored by applicators to protect a buildings structural steel from failure in the event of fire.

Spray Applied Insulation

Sometimes called spray foam, spray applied insulation is used to refer to various plastic foam materials that are used in building construction to provide thermal insulation and minimize air infiltration.

Intumescent Coatings

Often referred to as intumescent paint, CIP provides intumescent coatings in commercial buildings as a passive fire resistance measure. They can be applied to structural members as an aesthetically pleasing fireproofing product.

Acoustical Insulation

Spray applied acoustic insulation is used to increase the airborne noise reduction between rooms. Sound insulation slabs are produced to a higher density than thermal insulation, when you are using insulation to soundproof a room an acoustic slab should be used rather than thermal insulation.

FAQs About Spray Foam Insulation
in Commercial Spaces

Spray foam insulation is a type of spray-applied material (often polyurethane foam) used for thermal insulation, air sealing, and energy efficiency. CIP offers spray-applied insulation as part of its fireproofing and passive protection services, applying foam to various surfaces to enhance thermal performance.
We work with both open-cell and closed-cell spray foam materials depending on project requirements. Closed-cell foam offers higher R-value per inch and more moisture resistance, while open-cell foam is more flexible and better for certain assemblies.
Key benefits include:
  • Improved R-value (thermal resistance)
  • Reduced air leakage and infiltration
  • Better control of condensation
  • Acoustic (noise-dampening) gains when used with acoustical foam types
  • Assists in meeting code or design requirements when combined with fireproofing systems

Yes — spray foam must be compatible with passive fire protection systems. Depending on the design, fireproofing layers, intumescent coatings, or other barrier layers may be required over or adjacent to foam to meet fire-resistance ratings. CIP integrates insulation services with fireproofing, cementitious fireproofing, and intumescent coatings to maintain compliance.

CIP serves Tennessee and Alabama, including regions such as Nashville, Franklin, and surrounding areas. Their fireproofing and spray insulation services are available in those markets.

You can request a quote through CIP’s website or by contacting their offices directly (e.g., at their fireproofing office in Nashville) for a project in your area.

Fireproofing Affiliations and Memberships

CIP is proud to be a member of the NFCA (National Fireproofing Contractors Association). The NFCA represents contractors and manufacturers who install or provide passive fire protection for structures as required by building codes for the preservation of life safety. Member contractors install sprayed fireproofing, intumescent coatings and fireproofing board products.
